London was chosen to trial the hydrogen fuel cell buses, specially developed by Daimler Chrysler as part of the European financed Clean Urban Transport for Europe (CUTE) project. The Mayor of London set up the London Hydrogen Partnership in April 2002 to support the development of hydrogen technologies and develop a plan for London’s hydrogen economy. The Partnership will work closely with this project and encourage further demonstrations. |

| Dissemination activities | | • | Cobham Bus Rally, Sunday 4 April 2004 | | | Two of London's Fuel-Cell buses attended this year's annual Cobham Bus Rally in Surrey. Both buses departed Hackney depot (their home for the duration of the London trials) at 08:45 and arrived at the rally site at Wisley Airfield at around 10:15.
One bus spent most of the day operating on the bus service that linked the rally site with Cobham Bus Museum, clocking up 60 miles in the process and carrying several hundred passengers, many of whom stood up for the 20-minute journey just to say that they had travelled on one of these incredible machines. The other bus was parked on the runway alongside hundreds of other exhibits, for visitors to walk around and photograph. First's open-top 'RMC' Routemaster bus from London's Westbourne Park depot was parked adjacent so that visitors could see the Fuel-Cell's roof-mounted equipment from the upper deck. London Project's Alan Coney, Erik Theis and Michael Jerome were on hand to explain all of the features and to hand out literature. Thanks must go to everybody who made the day happen, plus drivers Matthew Wooll, Keith Nason and Leon Daniels who piloted these 12m long buses around some of Surrey's narrow country lanes without any problems.
The London Project is looking at doing further promotional activities during the year. | | | |
