Hydrogen and fuelling infrastructure The fuel cell buses will be driven on compressed hydrogen gas only produced from renewable energy sources. New Electrolysers will be provided by Norsk Hydro in Norway and only use electricity from the national grid and fresh water from the cities distribution service (Orkuveita Reykjavikur). The electricity is from turbines that either are run on geothermal steam turbines and hydropower plants. The hydrogen station is delivered as a module for the production, compression and storing of hydrogen gas. From the storage tanks the hydrogen will be filled daily onto tanks on the roof of the buses. The planned pressure is respectively 440 bars and 350 bars for the storing and roof-tanks. The driving capacity will become around 200 km per day. In Reykjavik buses need to be heated on the inside in all seasons. That will also be provided by hydrogen fuel cells. The hydrogen station will be an operated like an ordinary commercial fuel station run by Shell Iceland, offering a full range of services such as a coffee shop. |
